Navigating the Coronavirus:

To our deaf community,

It was impossible to predict all the ways in which COVID 19 would change our world in just six weeks. It is even more challenging to estimate when and how this crisis will end. We all have many questions about our future—those answers are not yet known and will be gradually revealed to us over time.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, CSD has been actively working to support our community.

• CSD launched a dedicated coronavirus hotline for the community to call and receive support from a deaf representative directly in ASL.
• We created a dedicated resource page (csd.org/coronavirus) which we continue to curate with the latest information available in both English and ASL.
• We have, in partnership with other organizations, supported ensuring access to essential government communication including the White House daily briefings.
• Since the beginning of the pandemic, demand for support from organizations has increased exponentially. CSD understands that strong organizations are imperative to assuring the needs of everyone in our community, especially marginalized populations who face additional barriers and challenges.  We are now distributing micro-grants to provide financial relief to deaf organizations who have been impacted by this crisis.
• CSD has shared training and instructional resources with schools and organizations that are now adapting to operating in a virtual environment.

I want to recognize our employees, most of whom are considered essential workers, and are in the frontline providing programs and services that are vital to our community. We care about all of our team members and we continue to take steps to ensure the well-being of our employees around the world.

CSD has been and will always be here for you. We welcome your suggestions and ideas regarding additional ways that we can be of support. Our hearts are with all of those who have experienced loss and those who are struggling. Maya Angelou once wrote, “Every storm runs out of rain.” Keep going. We will get through this together.

Era imposible predecir todas las formas en que COVID 19 cambiaría nuestro mundo en solo seis semanas. Es aún más difícil estimar cuándo y cómo terminará esta crisis. Todos tenemos muchas preguntas sobre nuestro futuro—esas respuestas aún no se conocen y se nos revelarán gradualmente con el tiempo.  

Desde el comienzo de la pandemia, CSD ha estado trabajando activamente para apoyar a nuestra comunidad. 

• CSD puso en marcha una línea telefónica directa dedicada al coronavirus para que la comunidad llame y reciba soporte de un representante sordo directamente en ASL.  
• Creamos una página de recursos dedicada (csd.org/coronavirus) la cual continuamos seleccionando con la información más reciente disponible en inglés y ASL.  
• Hemos apoyado, en asociación con otras organizaciones, garantizar el acceso a comunicaciones gubernamentales esenciales, incluidas las sesiones informativas diarias de la Casa Blanca.  
• Desde el comienzo de la pandemia, la demanda de apoyo de las organizaciones ha aumentado exponencialmente. CSD entiende que las organizaciones fuertes son imprescindibles para garantizar las necesidades de todos en nuestra comunidad, especialmente las poblaciones marginadas que enfrentan barreras y desafíos adicionales. Ahora estamos distribuyendo micro-subvenciones para proporcionar ayuda financiera a las organizaciones sordas que se han visto afectadas por esta crisis.  
• CSD ha compartido recursos de capacitación e instrucción con escuelas y organizaciones que ahora se están adaptando para operar en un entorno virtual.  

Quiero reconocer a nuestros empleados, la mayoría de los cuales son considerados trabajadores esenciales, y están en primera línea brindando programas y servicios que son vitales para nuestra comunidad. Nos preocupamos por todos los miembros de nuestro equipo y seguimos tomando medidas para garantizar el bienestar de nuestros empleados en todo el mundo.   

CSD ha estado y siempre estará aquí para ustedes. Agradecemos sus sugerencias e ideas sobre formas adicionales en las que podemos ser de ayuda. Nuestros corazones están con todos aquellos que han experimentado pérdidas y aquellos que están luchando. Maya Angelou escribió una vez: “Cada tormenta se queda sin lluvia”. Sigue adelante.
