Professional Development: St. Louis Principals Academy

St. Louis Principals Academy

The St. Louis Principals Academy is a year-long, nationally recognized, professional development opportunity for school administrators and leaders from the St. Louis region. Academy fellows meet two days each month. As part of the Academy, members participate in the state’s Leadership Academy program. Academy participants are selected on the basis of demonstrated leadership and diverse representation of the area.

Participants in the Academy:

  • Network with other principals.
  • Discuss current topics and issues confronting school leadership.
  • Improve leadership and management skills.
  • Develop and practice team building skills.
  • Explore change and assessment.
  • Receive training in the art of coaching from a certified trainer from the Cognitive Coaching Center in Colorado.
  • Enhance their understanding of the political process in education by visiting the state capital, meeting with DESE officials and with their senators and representatives, discussing current bills and legislation affecting public schools.

An Orientation Meeting will be held on July 1, 2009 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at Cooperating School Districts.  The opening session of the St. Louis Principals Academy will be held July 23-25 at the Lake of the Ozarks in a joint meeting with the Missouri Leadership Academy and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Applications are being accepted now.
