Federal Economic Stimulus Package
United States Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) recorded a video message about the federal economic stimulus package and its impact on Missouri's public schools. The message was shown at CSD's annual legislative breakfast on February 28. Click here to view this video.
State-Level Hot Topics
Amendment 7 to SCS for
HS for HCS for HB 191 and
Senate Committee Substitute for HCS for HB 148
These two
pieces of legislation, which are currently being considered in the
Senate, would have a negative financial impact on Missouri's public
schools. We encourage you to contact your senator and
encourage him/her to stop these pieces of legislation.

HJR 23
- Limits on State Appropriations
The Missouri House of Representatives passed HJR 23 by a 82-78
vote and the resolution has moved to the Senate for
consideration. The resolution puts a cap on the amount that
state appropriations can increase from one year to the next.
This creates a problem in which the state budget is not equipped to
fund all of the services the state provides.
HJR 23 is
very similar to the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights (TABOR), which was
passed in Colorado in the 1990s and then created significant
problems for that state's schools, healthcare system and other
services. Click
here, (small file), or Click here
(larger file), to see a video detailing the negative effect that
TABOR had on Colorado and that HJR 23 could have on
Missouri.
