St. Louis Area Schools Honored With Character Education Award
Five schools and one district recognized by The Character Education Partnership (CEP)
The Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis, Inc. (CSD) and the Character Education Partnership (CEP) in Washington, D.C., recognize five area schools and one district as finalists in the National Schools of Character awards program. The six-area schools and district are part of CHARACTERplus. CHARACTERplus is a project of CSD that works to advance the cause of character education and sustain its impact on educators and students.
The local finalists are:
- Bayless Junior High School, Bayless School District
- Chesterfield Elementary School, Rockwood School District
- Francis Howell Middle School, Francis Howell School District
- Lindbergh School District
- Sappington Elementary School, Lindbergh School District
- Valley Park Middle School, Valley Park School District
Nationwide, the Character Education Partnership named 23 schools and two districts as finalists, which included a record 149 applicants. The finalists are selected on the strength of written applications, which demonstrate their outstanding work in encouraging the ethical, social, and academic growth of their students through effective character education. The Character Education Partnership’s Eleven Principals of Effective Character Education, which defines excellence in character education, guided the evaluation and selection of finalists and winners.
In May, the CEP will select 10 National Schools of Character from the 25 finalists and honor them at their National Forum in Washington, D.C. in October.
