No Child Left Behind – With a Local Perspective

Best selling author and local educators to discuss the impact of No Child Left Behind

Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis, Inc. (CSD) is hosting an open discussion on the “No Child Left Behind” (NCLB) policy that will feature best-selling author Linda Perlstein.

Linda Perlstein is a former education writer for the Washington Post. Her latest book, Tested: One American School Struggles to Make the Grade, will be the focus of the discussion, specifically how the NCLB policy has affected St. Louis-area schools. The discussion is free and open to CSD member districts and will be held, Tuesday, September 25 from 1 – 2:30 p.m. at the Cooperating School Districts, 1460 Craig Road. Perlstein wanted to see the effects of NCLB firsthand, so she spent an academic year inside Tyler Heights Elementary School, a high-poverty elementary school in Annapolis, Maryland. The end result is her new book, Tested: One American School Struggles to Make the Grade.

In June 2000, Perlstein wrote a four-part series about life in middle school, which won acclaim and awards and she decided to explore the subject further at Wilde Lake Middle School in Columbia, Maryland, for her book, Not Much Just Chillin’. As well as her books, Perlstein has written for publications that include The Nation, Family Circle, Parents and the Columbia Journalism Review.

To reserve your space for the September 25 discussion on NCLB, contact Sarah Stuart at 314.692.1200. For more information about the book, Tested: One American School Struggles to Make the Grade, please visit http://www.henryholt.com
