Boeing Grant to Provide Scholarships for Midwest Education Technology Conference (METC)
The Boeing Company has awarded Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis, Inc. (CSD), a $44,000 grant to its Virtual Learning Center to provide professional development for educators to impact student achievement. Specifically, the grant will allow teams that have implemented action plans to integrate technology into the curriculum to receive scholarships to attend the Midwest Education Technology Conference (METC), February 4-6, at the St. Charles Convention Center.
In 2006, Boeing provided a similar grant, which provided 42 school districts to send a team of three educators to METC 2007. This year, the teams that have implemented action plans will benefit from the new $44,000 Boeing grant.
Ruth Litman-Block, director of the Virtual Learning Center, has received feedback from participants who believe the Boeing grant experience has changed their teaching practice forever. Block adds that educators are excited about the new tools and strategies they’ve learned and implemented in their classrooms and are excited to see student engagement and achievement improved. Teams that participated in the first year of the grant will be given priority status if they are implementing an action plan written during the 2006-2007 school year.
Over 1,000 educators are expected to attend METC 2008, which will provide them sessions to learn the importance of teaching with technology to improve student motivation, attendance and achievement.
