Superintendents Achieve
Character Certification

Superintendents Stanton Lawrence of the Normandy School District and Paul Ziegler of Northwest School District are two of the latest class of educators to achieve Certification in Character Education from CHARACTERplus.

Lawrence and Ziegler join Maureen Clancy-May of Bayless as the only local superintendents to achieve this certification. During the certification process, Lawrence and Ziegler took part in three full-day sessions to learn the framework for comprehensive whole-school integration of character education, while studying the research and philosophy behind moral and character development.

The certification process gave the superintendents the opportunity to learn alongside teachers, counselors and principals from schools across the region. They shared effective strategies that their districts use in character education and learned from each other.

Lawrence currently serves as chair of the CHARACTERplus superintendents’ council, a group made up of 77 leaders from CHARACTERplus districts and schools. Ziegler is currently co-chair of the council.

More than 725 educators have achieved certification from CHARACTERplus since the program’s inception, including educators from Taiwan, Kenya and Russia.
