Distance Learning Academy

You are invited to participate in the Distance Learning Academy. This multi-session academy is an extension of the New Links Distance Learning program offered by the Virtual Learning Center of Cooperating School Districts.

           
  

Distance Learning consists of many technology facets, allowing for a variety of learning opportunities including e-Learning, online projects, and videoconferencing. In this academy, participants will learn and experience methods of hybrid learning while also participating in projects with other classes. Additional uses of distance learning through point-to-point videoconferencing (VC) and multi-point connections using a Polycom, LifeSize or Cisco system will be examined. Participants will also learn and use other collaborative technologies such as Google Docs, blogs & wikis. This academy is designed to immerse participants in collaborative projects over distance learning. The value in creating this personal learning network (PLN) is in the networking and connections between the participants and the distance learning experience throughout the academy. 

Participants will:
• Understand the definition of distance learning and become comfortable with Videoconferencing, Skype & Google Apps
• Learn distance learning etiquette
• Understand social networking protocols
• Develop a collaborative Personal Learning Network
• Explore blogs, wikis, and other free collaborative online tools
• Examine problem based activities & lessons
• Participate in webinars
• Develop supplemental curriculum for project-based learning activities and lessons

Participants Receive:
• Attendance at one day of the Midwest Education Technology Conference 2013 (valued at $150)
• Access to the New Links Program Coordinator to schedule & support VC at your location during academy (and beyond for New Links members)
• Receive two e-Learning platforms to be used for participant online portal/courses
• Professional development for the e-Learning platforms
• Optional ability to earn 3 graduate credits through Lindenwood University at an additional cost of $60 per credit hour

4-7 pm each day, except for all day the Midwest Education Technology Conference

Registration starts July 1, 2012.

2012-2013  Academy Costs:
$495 per participant for all 5 sessions, plus webinar and METC attendance.
